Heriot-Watt University Selects Advanced’s MxPro for Fire Alarm Network

One of the UK’s leading universities has recently updated its fire system, and installed a high performance fire alarm panel network from global systems manufacturer, Advanced.

Heriot-Watt University is one of Scotland’s foremost universities and has been constantly expanding its Edinburgh Campus since it acquired the site in 1969. Today it is one of the most modern and technically advanced educational establishments in the UK, with 1,600 residential self-catering accommodation places, excellent sports facilities and student union in addition to the academic buildings.

The 64 panel network supplied by Advanced is built around its leading MxPro multiprotocol panels. MxPro offers customers a choice of two panel ranges, four detector protocols and a completely open installer network that enjoys free training and support. MxPro panels can be used in single loop, single panel format or easily configured into high speed, 200 panel networks covering huge areas. It’s ease of installation and configuration and wide peripheral range make it customisable to almost any application.

An MxPro 4 system was specified, covering both academic and residential buildings at the 380-acre Edinburgh campus, which houses 8,200 staff and students. The system also uses Advanced’s ipGateway to remotely monitor and manage sites.

ipGateway allows users to securely access the fire system using a standard web browser. By gathering real time network data, the state of each device is displayed and the user can enable/disable zones and devices, enable/disable reset, mute and silence/resound sounders across the system. ipGateway can also be configured to react to events on the network by sending emails to configured recipients.

Neil Parkin, sales manager for Advanced, said: “We have worked closely with various installers over a number of years to deliver a system that is both compatible with the existing installation and adaptable for the future. MxPro 4 is our benchmark fire panel and has set the highest standards in countless installations worldwide. It offers exceptional configuration and expansion capabilities, and is available in 1-8 loop formats with a huge range of peripherals.”

The MxPro 4 system is configured and maintained using Advanced’s, Dynamix Tools software suite. Dynamix Tools is a range of easy to use tools allowing users to quickly and easily configure, maintain and customise the system.

MxPro 4 is fully compliant with EN54 Parts 2 and 4, and backed up with Advanced’s renowned customer care and technical support. Advanced’s highest performance multiprotocol panel the MxPro 5, which is also EN54 Part 13 approved, is backward compatible with the MxPro 4 network offering Heriot-Watt University long term security, scalability and flexibility.
