The new system, which was designed and installed by ERIF UK, represented a major upgrade of the fire protection for the college and covers the whole site including function rooms, study areas, libraries and the student accommodation. Four MxPro 4 multi-loop control panels and a repeater panel are inter-connected via Ad-NeT+, Advanced's fault tolerant network and interfaced to over 1,200 Apollo fire detectors and devices.

The extensive cause and effect features of the MxPro 4 panels are used to provide a block by block phased evacuation of the building and activation of door holders and plant shutdown in the event of a fire. The status of any of the 1200+ devices is available to all of the panels, allowing any of them to act as a master for the whole system.

The Ad-NeT+ network is capable of withstanding a single fault between nodes without loss of communications to any single panel. Up to 200 panels (nodes) can be connected on the network with a total loop length of 20Km, using standard two-core fire resistant cable.
